Track your Ad results using Google analytics

Are you advertising like Google Adwords, Banner ads, email marketing? If so, it is very important to track and know which one is working and which not. Fortunately there are some analytics programs that have built in ad tracking capabilities like Google analytics.

What you track? With Google analytics you keep track of your advertising results such as:

Campaign source is typically a website or email list where visitors see your ad. If you are advertising on yahoo then this name goes here.

Campaign medium is medium or type of ad it is such as banner ad or PPC ad.

Campaign name is the name of promotion. For example: you might be advertising as a part of inventory clearance sale or introduce as a new product.

All this three piece of information should go into your tracking URL and hence the next step is to code a click through URL to the designated landing page on your site.

To build this tracking URL, follow these steps:

Go to URL Builder and put your landing page URL of the ad in the first text box (i.e.) the landing page URL of the ad.

Out of remaining five text boxes three must be filled out with campaign source, campaign name, and campaign medium and then click on generate URL button that gives you a new link including all the campaign details of your ad to track on.
